Image description: Water driven gristmill in Watermill, NY.
This mill is fed by the SEVEN PONDS-a series of kettle ponds made by the last glacier.
It is NOT a tide mill.
When the mill pond water rises the town must open the seaspouse to the ocean to let it drain and not impact the breast type waterwheel.
The wheel itself was rebuilt a few years ago as you can see in your photo.
I grew up with my cousins across the pond-the Kellys and Burdens.
