Two N Trains Stations To Close for 8 Months
Bad news for commuters in Astoria who were looking forward to having full train service back after a summer of weekends with no train service—the 36th Avenue and 30th Avenue stations will be shuttered for at least 8 months starting on October 23rd, DNAINfo is reporting. Whereas Summer’s weekend suspensions of train service were to allow track work to take place, the closure of these two stops is for renovations that will make the stations look “cleaner [and] brighter”, as outlined in Governor Cuomo’s 2016 proposal of a “new, rapid approach to station redevelopment [that] will expedite transformative renovations at 30 stations across the system.”
If you currently use the 36th Avenue or 30th Avenue stops, be prepared for rush-hour crowding at the other stations on the N train as they try to absorb the overflow from the closed stations. And assuming the face lift is complete by July 2018, get ready for the Broadway and 30th Avenue stations to close in turn for another 7 months for similar renovations. Signs announcing the closures should be posted soon.
